Paranais frici Hrabe
Recognition
Dorsal hair chaetae are absent.
Dorsal needles begin on segment 5.
There are 2 to 4 ventral chaetae on segment 2 and usually 1 or 2 on the rest.
All of the anterior ventral chaetae have the upper tooth about
twice as long as the lower tooth.
When mature there are 2 or 3 penial chaetae on segment 5, which are
thickened, but not as modified as Paranais litoralis.
There are no eyes. Coelomocytes are present.
The body wall non-papillate, but has transverse furrows, which may
hold a thin layer of foreign matter.
Summary
The length is up to 9 mm when alive.
It is most often found in coastal waters, but usually in freshwater.
Distribution
A widespread species over much of the world.
